Transforming Support for Carers

Focus groups have played a crucial role in improving the lives of Carers by providing them with the necessary support and resources.

They have also contributed to the development of strategies that prioritise the needs of Carers and ensure they are not forgotten or overlooked.

  • Gathering Insights: Focus groups have been used to gather insights from carers, carers' organizations, and professionals supporting carers. This data is used alongside survey research to develop new strategies for carers.

  • Identifying Needs: Focus groups have helped identify areas where support is needed, such as social activities and identity recognition. The importance of peer support and the need for carers to be at the heart of strategies and programs has been highlighted.

  • Transformative Solutions: Focus groups have also been involved in developing innovative solutions, which allows unpaid carers to easily access information and support.

Awareness Days

Key awareness days for Carers include Carers Rights Day and Carers Week, which aim to raise awareness and support for Carers.

Health Awareness Days for Carers

play a vital role in supporting individuals with health conditions, and it's essential to recognise their efforts with dedicated awareness sessions that can support Carers with their own wellbeing.

Collaborative Session Ideas to Promote Awareness Days

Here are some warm, engaging, and practical ways Wirral Carers Alliance will help Carers come together to mark awareness days while building community and visibility:

1. Story & Experience Sharing Circles

  • Hosting informal online or in-person gatherings where Carers share personal stories, challenges, and uplifting moments.

  • Producing short stories and feedback quotes (with consent) to share during awareness days at CoLLaB.

  • Including creative elements inspired by caring experiences.

2. Skills & Wellbeing Workshops

  • Partnering with local health professionals organisations to run mini-sessions on stress relief, mindfulness, or health screening and wellbeing education.

  • Offering a “swap shop” of tips — Carers exchange practical hacks for daily challenges.

  • Group photo or message to post in support of the awareness campaigns to share involvement.

3. Creative Collaboration Projects

  • Creating a collaborative project representing the caring journey.

  • Developing short awareness video's featuring Carers’ voices and lived experience (with consent) for the 'Commitment to Carers' Conference.

  • Organising themed events, exhibitions and Carers workshops, for example 'Carers Rights'

'Caring for Dementia'

Dementia Action at CoLLaB - Wednesday 20th May

A day dedicated to raising awareness, challenging stigma, and fostering a dementia-friendly society.

It encourages individuals, communities, and organisations to take action in support of people affected by dementia and those that care for them.

The event encourages conversations, challenges misconceptions, and supports carers by promoting kindness and patience. It also highlights the vital role of unpaid carers and encourages everyone to contribute to creating a more inclusive and supportive society for everyone affected by dementia.
